… at Greg Laden’s blog.  Lots of good stuff here.  One of the posts I found intriguing is this one on studying the coevolution of bacteria and hyenas, and how bacteria affect the smell of the paste hyenas use to mark their territories.   We’ve talked about the effect of bacterial commensal populations on smell in the context of Drosophila mate choice and how human skin smells to mosquitos, but taking these questions to hyenas brings a whole new level of experimental challenge.
