Duties and Responsibilities
The SysMIC consortium (formed by Birkbeck College London, The University of Edinburgh, The Open University and UCL) seeks a uniquely talented lecturer to spearhead the development and delivery of an ambitious interdisciplinary post‑graduate e‑Learning and teaching programme.The BBSRC, a major funder of UK bioscience research, has commissioned the SysMIC consortium to develop an e-Learning for Systems Approaches (eLSA) training course in skills and techniques essential for the routine application of systems approaches on all biological scales. This course will be available to all members of the BBSRC research community and is a requirement for all new BBSRC funded PhD students from 2012 onwards.
The successful candidate’s principal duty will be to coordinate the development of the materials approved for the SysMIC course by working with all contributors in the consortium. They will also oversee the delivery of the course by working with our e‑Learning experts. You will develop a unique world-leading expertise in interdisciplinary e-Learning and training at the post-graduate level on the interface of mathematics, computing and life sciences. You will also be expected to make a continuing and appropriate contribution to research in your fields of expertise.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject area and a strong background in mathematics, physics, computing, mathematical or systems biology, although candidates with other related backgrounds will be considered. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated capability to initiate and conduct leading-edge research and enthusiasm for teaching.
