The institute of Systems and Synthetic Biology (iSSB, www.issb.genopole.fr) has a tenure track full Professor position opening in the field of synthetic biology starting in 2013. The institute is part of Genopole (www.genopole.fr), a consortium of leading research academic and private laboratories in genomics, post-genomics and related sciences. Genopole is the largest French BioPark and is located near Paris.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, computational and molecular biologists, working on systems and synthetic biology projects funded by Genopole, National, and European funding agencies. The research activities of the institute are aimed at designing, constructing and characterizing biosafe synthetic gene circuits for therapeutic applications. The five research teams are currently developing orthogonal gene synthesis, metabolic modeling and engineering, spatio-temporal circuit for gene regulation, operon characterization and engineering, and genome engineering for animal model developments.
The role of the Professor will be to participate in the teaching and service missions of the institute and in particular to develop a course module for students enrolled in our master program in Systems & Synthetic Biology (www.mssb.fr). The recruited Professor is expected to develop an original and independent line of research in the field of synthetic biology that is synergetic with the institute research activities and with direct relevance to human health. Examples include but are not limited to: stem cell or mammalian cell engineering, minimal cell, in vitro synthetic biology, and cell-cell communications. Start up funds will be made available to the awardee to build its own research laboratory and team within the institute.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. or M.D. Ph.D. in biology, computational sciences or physical sciences, and several years experience in systems or synthetic biology as demonstrated by publication records. A proven record of developing externally funded research programs and leading teams of researchers is essential. The position requires proven analytical, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Self-motivation is essential, as is an affinity for working in a diverse team environment.
iSSB offers a very competitive compensation package, which will be commensurate upon qualifications and experience. The job location is in Evry, 35 km south of Paris, 30 min by commuter train. Applicants should send their CV, a cover letter, a report on past and future research activities, and three names of references to the Synthetic Biology Recruiting Committee: sb-recruiting@issb.genopole.fr, 331 69 47 44 39, fax 331 69 47 44 37. Review of applications will begin on April 1, 2012, and will continue until a suitable pool of applicants has been identified.
